Yeah! Yeah! It's ugly!
The shower is the ONE item in our house I couldn't get our builders to budge on. The shower doors are CRAZY low. It's nuts! We both have to bend down to get out of the shower, or we'll bonk our heads. The builder swore up and down they couldn't get a taller shower door. Huh.
Anyhoo, until we completely tile the whole bathroom, including the shower, (which will be most likely in my dreams only), I had to figure out a solution to hide this nasty thing:
I know, I didn't even match the towels or hang them up nice for ya'll. Just keepin' it real. :)
For a while I considered making a shower curtain and couldn't decide if it would work well. Then, one day Shannon posted hers and it was exactly what I was thinking!! I knew I had to do it.
I used simple white terrycloth instead of decorative fabric, so I won't stress if it gets wet. I found some grosgrain ribbon that matched the room and used my hemming tape to make a large rectangle, just to add some detail:
I'm having another Linky party ladies -- show everyone your Goodwill/thrift store/garage sale transformations! Fun, eh? I'll link it up on Monday, May 4th, so you have plenty of time to find that perfect item and make it caaaute!
Also, if you've tried anything I've posted about, I'd love to see it! I love when you e-mail me and show me what you've done! I'm going to do a post and share all of your projects, so if you have something you want to share that I inspired you to do, please e-mail me!

Love it! I had to break out the stitch-witchery & glue gun to help hide our PINK bathtub. Thanks for sharing this.
I'm soooo excited to link up with my Goodwill Goodies!!

Great idea! I got some new bedding from Target a few months ago and CAN NOT find a shower curtain that I love to coordinate with it. The bathroom's double doors open into the bedroom, and the shower is *right there*, so you can see the curtain.
Sarah that is genius!
I love the small detail of ribbon making such a big difference.
FYI you're shower is not ugly! I can see why you don't like it too low to hit your head though.
I only use our garden tub...I'm lazy...:)
Really good solution :)
It looks terrific. Maybe black rugs would work if you don't want to go white. Just a thought. I love the ribbon for detail.
The shower curtain is such a great idea and the ribbon trim is just fabulous. Really changes things. Love it. Hugs, Marty
It looks much better. Have you considered removing the frame work and doors?? You are so talented you'll pull the whole room together without spending a arm and a leg. Hugs, Terrie
Yup, that's it.
It's crisp, clean, lovely.
I just did a post on my bathroom a couple days, months, weeks ago? Anywho, it made me realize I should redo my bathroom! Thanks for inspiring me, now I haaave to redo it.
My husband however does not thank you $$$. ;)
It looks fantastic...great job!
Hi Sarah, I have this same problem in my bathroom and have been looking for the right shower curtain FOREVER. I really like the way yours turned out! I visted Shannon and really like hers too. This helped me to visualize it better, glad you posted it! Kristen
Love it! What an awesome trick. Looks so much better.
If you have time, please stop by my blog and read this post! I need opinions!

how fun! i'm in!!!
i'll have to go thrifting...or estate sale-ing. or something.
whoo hoo!
GIRL! I just love your blog -- you make me laugh out loud! (Not to mention you have great ideas!) I do have one question, tough, what is the big rectangle thingie below the metal decorative hanging thingie? (That is a technical decorating term . . . or maybe t's late, and I'm just brain-dead!)
OMG! I love that and that is soooo what I need to do for my master bathroom shower! Thanks so much!!!! YAY!!
And I can't wait for the goodwill transformations!!
I love love your blog! you have such great ideas! I am wondering what oil rubbed bronze spray paint you use? I have used kroyler camouflage spray paint... is that what you use?
Cross my heart, hope to die, stick a needles in my eye, it's ugly, hey hey, it's ugly!!
Okay. done now.
LOVE what you've done! Those builders are full of balogna!! I hate the way that word is spelled. It's so stupid.
Anyways, I think it looks great!!
And I'm still so excited about your party!! Can't wait!!
Thanks for the shout out! :) Your curtain looks great! I love seeing mine everytime I walk in the bathroom. It makes such a difference! I love the ribbon detail on yours. Beautiful!
it looks great! jen
Love this! I HATE our shower in our master. I can't wait to use your idea to hide it!
Awesome idea!
I love that you used terry cloth - it looks so good! Quick, easy and huge difference - my idea of a project!
I like it a lot! We have a shower in our master bathroom and I've been thinking about putting a shower curtain in front of it. I know my husband will hate it...but I hate looking at the shower! LOL!
~ Sarah
This is exactly what I do. I hate our shower doors in the bathroom downstairs. Our son uses this bathroom because for some reason he refuses to share the shower upstairs with his sister, well I should say, his sister refuses to let him shower in there. Anyway, I put up a shower curtain a few years ago to hide the ugly doors. BUT, how in the world do you clean the tracks of the door???? I cannot for the life of me get them clean!!! Love your shower curtain!
This is such a clever idea... and terry cloth is a user-friendly fabric!
I think your builder was just being lazy, our shower doors are a little over 6ft tall. Love the idea though. As far as the rugs, maybe you could make them with the green, white is kindof hard to keep really clean. Just my opinion. Love your style though! keep on keepin on.
What a great idea! {as usual} It totally gives a different feel!
Sa-WEET! That looks lovely, and definitely dresses up the joint. Good job!
We put up a shower curtain over an ugly shower/tub too! It really helps! Now, I just hope the ugly shower doesnt scare away buyers...haha.
Ok....so I have to say that I have become somewhat of a blog "stalker!" And I am stuck on yours. Please take it as a compliment when I say you inspire me to be more creative and not just satisfied with the mundain(not sure the spelling is correct here, but you know what I mean). I did read about how you were looking for a way to apply "poly" without brush strokes.....well my husband works in that realm and he said that you might try using a roller? Or your poly is, for lack of a better term, to thick and may need to be "reduced." So where ever you purchase your poly, they should be able to tell you how to do that. You might have better luck finding out from a "paint" store or retailer. Anyway, thought it would be worth a try if you like that look and want to pursue that kid of finish on something.
thanks for all the great ideas and for the motivation. Becky
That looks great! I like the look of a curtain much better than a plain ole shower door. When we first moved into our new home, the master bath shower had a door, and after a while, I got tired of all the hard water stains on it all the time, so we just took that sucker down and put up a curtain instead. Much better. No more hard water stains, and when the curtain gets dirty, I can just take it down and throw it in the wash. Simple as that.
Looks great! We also have nasty - ugly doors- I am pretty sure their tracks were never cleaned before we moved in... I hung up a lovely shower curtain and it is a great disguise. My sweet DH even shuts it (door and curtain) when he gets out!
Sarah~I love this idea! A perfect solution and it looks fantastic. So, is hemming tape the same thing as fusible webbing?? I'm sewing illiterate...
it looks fabulous!!!!!!! I love your site, you have so many great ideas. You gave me motivation to go to thrift stores and start transformations as well. Thank goodness, it gives me something to do while watching dancing with the stars :) Thanks again!
Good idea! practical and looks good too.
Great, thanks for the song in my head. I just posted my u.g.l.y shower too and I would like them to go head to head - because I know my before would beat yours by a landslide! But funny how we both covered them with a curtain - so were tied! Can't wait for your parties!
I've been coming to your blog for a few weeks now and LOVE all your ideas...thanks for all your great inspiration! I'm adding your button to my sidebar!
Good solution! Pretty and practical - my two favorite things!
Manuela
also you made me not scared to spraypaint!!! now all i have to worry about are the fumes :)
i love it... really nice..
Sarah, I love it! How funny that I just looked at an eco-rug the other day and I know you would want one of these! Every bath rug I have in our house is white and this one is another one I'm going to make very soon!
Check it out!

That turned out very nice! I love the way the fabric really softens that area and gives it some height.
I wish I could figure out how to transform our shower. It's got the brassy looking metal parts around the glass and it's a corner shower that is attached to the tub.
Love it! And yes definitely go for the white rugs! Love your blog!!!!
REally neat idea, thanks for sharing. I like the simplicity of it as well. I bet you really feel like it looks cozier in there.
Girlfriend...you inspire me daily! I LOVE the shower curtain. I'll be sure and link up to your party on May 4th...sounds like wicked fun! I LURVE me some trash to treasure.
BTW, thanks for entering my giveaway to celebrate my etsy shop opening! And double thanks for your friendship and support from the very beginning. I am so blessed with such amazing blogging friends!
Hugs ~ Amanda
I feel certain that your shower door is actually a unit meant to enclose a bathtub and shower. The short sliding door would be the right height if it sat on the edge of a bathtub. I agree with Amber. Your builder was full of bologna, ...and that is a stupid way to spell boloney!
BeckyMc
You are the queen of creativity!!!
I just want to say I just started following your blog and it has given me so many great ideas! You have done fabulous things with your home!
Justine
Okay, I gotta know where you found the oil rubbed bronze spray paint! :) Your shower curtain looks great! I currently have a fabric liner in mine, but will spray paint the ugly metal rod and get another pretty fabric one for the outside~when I get to the bathroom project! I have quite a few projects ahead of that one.
I LOVE IT!! That is such a beautiful transformation!! And so smart to use the terrycloth. I am impressed girl!
Carrie
I just found your blog... and I am loving it.. wonderful tips and wonderful redecorating.. I will be back to check it out when I have more time.
Good idea!
I hate all those shower doors, big and small!
Great solution! Our builder wanted to do the same thing and we had them put in a tub instead, just so we wouldn't have the shower doors. I think everyone else in our neighborhood does, though. This looks great!
I have been thinking of hiding our shower door too! You can see it right from the bathroom door and it is just so blah!
I love this idea!
Great idea! Oh my, if you would've seen the bathroom in our old house. Let me just say that the house was 120 years old (swoon if it was a nicer swoon) and the bathroom wasn't originally there...it was an outhouse. It would've been more pleasant if there was STILL just an outhouse, LOL.
Great, great ideas...and I can't wait for the link-up of fun finds and transformations!
Absolutely love the look & feel of your blog. I'm now on your large list of followers. ;-)
