So instead, I did some spray painting in the garage. A couple weeks ago, I saw this project at Angie's place and fell in love with it!
I was thinking of ways to try this out and thought of the perfect way to update the area by our kitchen window. I have small plates on each side of the window, but have had them up there for almost five years:
Not much lasts that long in this house...it was time for a change. I got four small plates at GW for .25 each (!!). Hooooolla!! They were half off the .49:
I spray painted them black, and then cut up some small decorative pears I already had:
And just hot glued them on!:

There we go. I had to spray paint the plate hangers black. DOCD you know. (Decorating OCD.) And just because I love them so, a few more pics:

Adorable. Seriously folks. Total cost? One buckaroo! One dolla. One bill. One buck. You get the picture. I almost just spray painted my original plates so it would have been F.R.E.E. But I do like them and will use them for entertaining instead.

Love this! When you said...wait, I have issues...I thought you were talking about the stems of the pears. In the first one the stem is straight, but in the next pic it is curved just a bit. That would be MY DOCD...I would totally go back and curve the stems ever so slightly...in opposite directions. HA. You thought no one would notice, huh? I get you Sarah.

These look wonderful. And I'm so glad you spray painted the hangers. Sometimes DOCD is a necessity. Black is such a perfect foil for that beautiful pear green; couldn't have plate hangers marring the look.

I had seen that project and thought that I could do it (found a fun frame at GW) and then you go and step it up! ^_^ After your initial pictures with your old plates, I thought "I wonder why she didn't spray paint the holders?" Hah, then you go and do it. So cute!

Now these are really cool! My kitchen has no theme and I really don't even have wall space but these would look great on a stand too! I could use something like this that isn't 'themey' (is that a word) since the kitchen is open to the living room.
Man-I wish that I had a fan club such as yours. You go girl!! I saw this the other day and loved it!!! I love it even more on plates!! I am a plate freak!! I buy them all the time-and I never know what I am going to do with them. Until now. I am itching to do this. I must do this(after I clean my craft room) I guess I could use the idea as incentive-right!

This inspired me. The kids and I decided to go on a 'treasure hunt' at the local consignment/flea market type place. I found two black square frames for $1.50 each. We are doing a jungle/animal print sort of theme (think sophisticated with photos of real animals framed) in their play room. Anyway, first I found some animal print felt and was like "bingo! put it in the frames!" Then at the next store I found some animal magnets that are rather large. The room has no place for magnets but I immediately thought of this post today and decided that the magnets would look great inside the frames. :)
I saw Angie's post too and wondered when it would start popping up everywhere. I love your take on it!

do you have a fave brand of spray paint? and do you have a fave place to get it?
I have been reading back through your blog and when I saw this, I knew I needed to try my hand at it. So I went out to Michael's today and bought some fake fruit. I plan to use a scrapbooking paper background on some plaques I got for $.60 and spray painted black.
So I took my favorite bread knife because it's serrated and I figured cutting through styrofoam would be no problem.
Well, except that there's a big ball of concrete in the middle to give them weight. DOH! Hee hee... they still look really cool. I dug the concrete ball out of the middle of the fruits. Now I just need to decide on the paper.
