The dining hutch Christmasfied

020

So glad you loved the recipes! I bought more of the little cookies today at Target on sale – the snowmen cookies were $1.25, the reindeer were $1.75. (No more trees!) Not sure of the logic of the price difference, but I got a few more packages to make for a party this weekend. I may or may not have made some for myself tonight. Maybe.

I finished decorating our dining room hutch last week and it was so easy and quick this year – I had everything labeled exactly where I had it last year! For this space, I just fill a bunch of glass “things” and I’m done. Last year, Stink Eye Sister was harassing me the whole time about it, and it was so relaxing not hearing that “meeehmeeeeehmeehblahblaaahblahblaaaaaaah” sound in my ear. (She finally moved out last month.) I do miss her, but Good Lord, it was about time. :)(Smooches sister!!!)

Last year Target had these gorg tall branchy trees and I told you to NOT buy them, because I made them myself years ago. Get the twiggy cone shaped trees from the craft store, then spray paint them whatever metallic color you wish, then add some sparkle spray paint on top of that. At least half the price of the department store trees! I spray paint just about anything I can get my hands on:

For my lovely decanter from Goodwill (score!), I just put one strand of gold beads inside:

The apothecary jars are filled with faux snow, then topped with various inexpensive filler:

I don’t even know where I got the bells – I think the Dollar Store? The red ornaments were from Hob Lob half off – just a couple bucks I believe. The little white bulbs were actually on a strand of string as garland, but I cut them off so I could use them as filler. :)

Since my little votive holders I got for fall were the absolute perfect colors for the dining room, I just nestled them in with some snips of greenery and leftover scraps of ribbon:

I hang a strand of garland around our hutch every year, and I realized some ribbon I had would look GORG wrapped around it. The color is perfect!:

I spent zero moola on this area this year! And what I have spent on it over the years is VERY little:

The dining table was my first Christmas decor project this year. If you missed it, check it out here.

Everything is D.O.N.E! We finished the large, live tree tonight. I can’t wait to show you! I hope you’ll join me for the Christmas Tree Party this coming Monday.

One of my favorite little splurges this year were the Christmas light goggles – have you seen these? You put them on and they turn every light into a little shape:

I took a picture through them and I couldn’t believe it turned out! We have snowflakes, stars and snowmen. Adorable. Only two bucks each at Lowe’s!

This time of year is so special to us. It’s not only the holidays -- our sweet Bub was due right after Christmas. But three years ago tonight, we were planning to meet him three weeks early, and I was induced on this day. I can’t believe tomorrow it will be that long since I met my most favorite person on Earth. I was rocking my “baby” tonight, remembering the first time they laid him down on me. So much joy. The way time flies – it is the understatement of the century that it goes by in a blink. :)

  4. Sarah, as always...everything looks beautiful! I am so wanting to get my Christmas decorating done...yet we are still trying to finish the remodeling. Just are hoping we will get our tree up before Christmas! lol. I love how elegant everything looks and it just invites you in to stay awhile. 7. So...now that Stink Eye is gone, I'm thinking Bub may need a playmate...you know, a sibling! LOL! Thought about you tonight...was in Lowe's thumbing throught their Creative Ideas magazine (the one you pay for), and saw these drums made out of paint cans & spray painted w/ gold ribbon for the side strings & upholstery tacks holding it to the can. Good for storage too. I can see the wheels turning! LOL!

3 years ago I was just starting my maternity leave...and our first little guy was born 2 weeks later. Last year at this time I was a week away from our second little guy.

  18. An understatement, indeed! Then you find out you're going to be a grandma for the first time and you're like "how is that possible? I'm not old enough to be a grandmother!" {like I did two weeks ago}.

Your hutch looks lovely! Love the ribbon and the jars ~ everything suits your dining room so well. Looking forward to the blog party!

  32. Usually just lurk on your blog - but HAPPY B-DAY to your little one. My oldest will be 12 next week - seems like it has been 12 days NOT 12 years.

  33. Love that first photo, Sarah---swooning! :) I noticed that Melissa at 320 Sycamore has the same bells as you...pretty sure she mentioned getting them at The Dollar Tree, otherwise known as my second favorite store (after Target, of course). ;)

Your little man and my oldest have bdays close together. She turned 4 on Sunday. :) It was hard that first year having a newborn so close to Christmas, but now the whole month is special. :)

    I really like your apothecary jars!!! :) Fab-u-lous! :)

  34. Love all of your gorgeous decor! I have to comment about your beads in the decanter. I have 2 strands exactly like that, and last year they were on my tree. I walked in to see my baby (4 months younger than yours) with half the strand off the tree, with it wrapped around his neck. He was spinning, and I could just see him falling down and getting strangled/choked by it. He didn't fall and was fine, but I got enough of a scare that I removed them from my tree and didn't put them on this year either. They were in the box when we got the decorations out, and both of my boys wanted to play with them. I hid them and was wondering what to do with them (almost threw them in the trash) and now I know a great way they can be enjoyed. Thanks! Love your blog! I'm constantly amazed by how you get it all done with a little one. Maybe someday I'll get it together.

  43. I have to say I am now a fan of your site. My friend Erin @ Thimble Ambitions always talks about your work and I had to check it out for myself. After reading the first post it's amazing. I'm not that into doing my own crafts but some of the things I saw look fantastic. I may have to start dabbling in some of these things lol. I'll definitely be coming back here more often.
