We hopped! And SHOPPED!

OH my goodness! We had the BEST day on Saturday! My friend Beckie and I were so excited the Goodwill Shop and Hop had finally arrived –- even if it was the first day in forever it was cold and rainy. Boo hiss!

We still had a BLAST! I am happy to announce there was no cat fighting or hair pulling and ZERO knocking each other to the ground to get to an item – at least I’m pretty sure.  ;)

We started out at Buca’s for some scrumptious lunch and great conversation:

Then we were off to hop around to four local Goodwill locations to find some treasures!

I had this fantastic idea that I would video tape everyone while they shopped and put a cutie little video together…and then…well, then the Goodwill trance came over me every time we walked in! I was on a mission!! :)

I caught a few pics of some of the lovely ladies shopping:

Heather (on the right) scored some FAB vintage cola crates at one stop – for $6.99 each!! Eek! They were AWESOME!

The Nester  even came!:

Ha! Just kidding! But seriously, all day long I was like, “Oh, hey, I didn’t know Nester drove up for this!” And then, “OH YEAH, it’s Megan.” ;) (Isn’t she cute?)

The rain sure didn’t stop us. We looked like drowned rats by the end of the day, (at least I did), but we persevered!:

We all hit it off immediately, and I felt like we all walked away friends:

Nothing like a great day shopping to make you bond. :)

MANY thanks to our sponsors – we had a KILLER swag bag!:

Thanks so much to Gorilla Glue, 3M, Behr Paint, Mod Podge, Krylon and Eclectic Cabinets Knobs and Decor. The 3M painters tape (my favorite!) is coming in REAL handy during the Bub’s room redo!

Sooooo…what did I get?

First, this gorgeous artichoke/sparkly/pearly thing:

Isn’t it fantastic?

Hardy har har! I kid! I kid! I had to take a picture of that beauty. It just goes to show, if you look past items like that, you can find little bits of lovely, like these 50 cent storage jars:

These will be perfect in my craft room!

I could not resist these cutie little juice glasses:

They look vintage, but are in perfect condition, so I’m not sure. (They were only 50 cents each!)

This doodad was $3 and I’m still not sure what I’m doing with it:

But I think I have something in mind. ;)

I spent most of my time looking for hardback books in specific colors for the Bub’s room:

It took some time because the titles of the books had to be ones that would be appropriate for a toddler’s room. Those little details matter to me – didn’t want The Shining or something like that on his shelves.  :)

I think with a coat of paint over the brass, these could be adorable:

A buck each!

Same goes for this little lamp for the Bub’s desk:

Paint and a new lamp shade will do the trick!

Hidden away on a bottom shelf in the corner of one store, I found these huge storage bins from Target for $5 each:

I grabbed a couple, and skipped away to show everybody, and then found at least three others who had found them as well! (It pays to look in corners!)

We had SO much fun! Check out Beckie’s site for more great pics! She and I want to thank you all so much for joining us ladies! We hope to do this event twice a year, so we’ll let you know soon when we schedule the next one. And as we get pictures of everyone’s finds and transformations, we’ll be sure to share them!

BIG thanks to Buca’s and Goodwill Industries of Central Indiana as well. Both were awesome to work with.

The Thirty-One giveaway is open through Tuesday at noon, so check it out if you haven’t yet!

I’ll be back tomorrow with a peek into the big boy room. I am LOVING it.

Thank you to my sponsor:

so much fun and such great finds!

you may actually want to take the time to read Never Change by Elizabeth Berg; she is one of my very favorite authors, and i've read 3/4 of her novels, but not that one! good stuff, though!

:)

Looks like y'all had a lot of fun! My Goodwill partner in crime is my husband, and he's normally ready to be done after 5 minutes!

It'sw funny that you got "Tribute" by Nora Roberts in your stack, I have that in a little vignette on my tv stand! It's a great red!

I am so sad to have missed this - had hoped to attend from Chicago but I just couldn't make it work out. So glad to hear you'll be doing this twice a year! Excited to see the rest of the great finds! Marija

I seen the 3 little tulip candle holders and laughed...I have 2 of them that I just put in a box to yard sale in the spring. Now I want to drag them back out and wait and see how you transform them into something fabulous and then I can maybe still use them in my home.

What fun that must have been! I skipped going out to my Goodwill this weekend, because of the monsoon we had here, but I probably would have felt less blah if I just went and found some little treasures like yours.

I also want to thank you for all the time and coordination you put into hosting this event as well as the super SWAG bags. (I think I'll have to hide it from hubby!! hee hee!)

Once again thanks for the fun afternoon! I don't know about you but it was just what I needed!! :)

I totally don't understand paying money for and stocking your son's room with books that you don't love and don't intend to read to him just because they are a certain color? Nora Roberts in a toddler's room?

What about Goodnight Moon and But Not the Hippopotamus, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie?

Please explain this. I'm really, really trying to wrap my head around it.

Otherwise, love your blog!

And I'm just a tad jealous. That's all.

Hey! I had so much fun on Saturday! Thank you all so much for organizing it! And the swag bags were great! Can't wait to see what you come up with for your finds.

I think my Goodwill & Savers are overpriced! I know that sounds silly but some things I think what are they thinking?

The Nester said...

I'm with the Chinese anonymous up there. ditto.

Oh and Fat Cat, it does sound crazy but there are actually people who buy books BY THE FOOT just for decorating purposes!

http://www.booksbythefoot.com/?gclid=CNiGtLSnu6ACFSpiswodhXspTA

Sometimes you just need a little color {same reason we put prints on the wall and stuff} to stack stuff on, doesn't mean anyone's going to read them but for the $$ they can be a beautiful addition.

So wish I could have come, glad I sent my other sister!

I got a little scared with the artichoke thing!!! I was thinking "I know you are good at transforming stuff, but how are you going to do anything with that piece of ugliness!" Glad you decide to pass it up! LOL!

that looks like a super fun day! That "doo dad" thing is perfect for storage markers in your craft room since they are best stored on their side.

I sooo wanted to go with you all and had my finger on the button to commit when I realized I couldn't go. :( Next time, I hope, I hope. When I visit my son in Indy, I always make a stop or two at Goodwill. Indy has so many. Love it.

Have you ever translated the Chinese comments you get? I was curious what I was getting on my own blog, so I went to Google Translate. The above comment supposedly translates to: "Happiness is your birthright power, it should not depend on what you have to complete." Just an fyi for fun.

Looking forward to the announcement of your next date for this event.

Melanie said...

I wish I could have gone with yall. I live about 2 hrs from you and I might just have to meet up with yall the next time:) Glad you had a great time.

Cathie said...

Yep, I scratched my head at the artichoke too.
I wonder if any bloggers/followers in the South Jersey/Philly area would like to do this as well? I think it'd be awesome, and a way to really get to know more "friends."

Elz said...

Sounds like fun. I'm glad that picture was a joke, I was beginning to question your sanity!

Looks like fun! I can tell you that the little juice glasses are at least 33 years old. My grandparents have the same set, and have had them my entire life, so I can be pretty confident about their age!

I have the same tulip top little brass things...don't know what you call them but got them for a quarter...wouldn't it be great if they were worth a million dollars??? Looks like sooo much fun!

I didn't read thru you BA-Gillion comments (you popular thing, you! lol) but did anyone suggest a spray paint can holder for the doohickey? Just wondering....

Where in the world is this goodwill?? Mine look nothing like that!

Gabby said...

I know this is an old post, and I'm a first time commentor (just recently submitted via bloglines) - but a note on those cute daisy glasses...they are vintage. My grandmother had the same set - I mean exact, not something like them - (I think my mother has them now) and was serving juice from them back in the early 70s when we spent the night.
