Before and After Party: Clock cloche

Anyone else glued to the Bachelorette tonight? ;) Don’t worry, I won’t ruin it for anyone. But it was GOOD. (YES. I have watched every season of the Bachelor and Bachelorette. Good stuff.) Ohhh Lordy, the rainbow part just about KILLED me!! Sniff.

Hubs and I were so taken with the shots of Tahiti, we were searching to see how much a trip there would cost. Let’s just say we need to wait till Dave Ramsey will let us. ;)

For this month’s party, I transformed a $3 Goodwill find, and it took all of ten minutes to complete. Score!

Cloches are BIG right now – and I luuuuurve ‘em. I’ve found a few -- my favorite (and biggest) one was a Goodwill find:

(I have since sprayed the base cream, but I think it may go back to black. OH the wonders of spray paint!!)

Some I have no idea where I got:

cloche

One was a antique find:

cloche

And one I made from other stuff and called it a cloche:

cloche with pears

;)

Well, that was how this one worked out as well. And it was SO easy. I found one of those clocks under glass jobbies at Goodwill:

I saw the idea somewhere in blogland months ago, and I have NO idea where it was. (If you know, will you let me know so I can link to it?)

**Molly did one, you can find it here!

It look about two minutes to take the screws out of the bottom and take it all apart:

 009 011

The base was plastic (other than the glass dome, everything was plastic!), so I spray primed it, then sprayed it in ORB spray paint as well.

I found a $1 mirror from Michaels that fit right over the top of the base, to hide the holes and that was IT!

Now the only problem is finding the perfect tchotchkes to put under it!

Too squatty:

Too white:

Too tall!:

Good for now!:

026

(The vase doesn’t have water in it, but it looks like it does! Weird!)

I thought about adding something to the top as a handle, but it’s just fine as is. It’s not the fanciest, biggest cloche I’ve ever seen, but it’s pretty darn cute for just four bucks total! (And about ten minutes of work!)

So my before and after for this month…

Before, my $3 Goodwill clock:

After, a pretty adorable (and cheap!) cloche!:

clock turned cloche

I can’t wait to see what you’ve been up to this month!

I would love it if you would link back to me in your post, and use this button if you wish:

beforeAndAfterButtonOnly links to your actual post (not your blog address) will be accepted. (Right click on the title of your post, click copy, then paste the html into the linky.)

The party will be open till next Monday, so link it UP! Have fun! :)

Oh my, you know that I am just totally drooling over all of your cloches. You do have some pretty ones. Using the clock dome is so creative and I love how you did the base. That is so clever. You definitely do have a great collection. Wow, get ready for the fall "Cloche Party" . I think maybe some time in Sept. You will definitely have the best selection. Love them. Hugs, Marty

Really cute! I will be on the lookout for this. I haven't got a cloche and this would be a great idea. I am always looking something I could turn into a cloche, but nothing good yet. Thank you for hosting.

Sarah I remember those gold spinning clocks very well. My Grandparents had one way back when. It looks fabulous how you repurposed it into a cloche. Gorgeous!

Thanks for hosting! It's always fun to see before and afters. :)

Wow, great idea! My grandparents had a clock like that! I'll have to pay attention at yard sales for one. I've been looking for some cloches but they are more than I want to spend. Great solution!

I missed the very first season of the Bachelor but I've been hooked ever since the 2nd season. Looks like Ali & Roberto may be the next Trista & Ryan??! We'll see.
I have two of those clocks I could do that to, thanks for the idea! It looks great, as all your efforts do!

Okay, who hasn't seen one of those clocks and thought "what could I do with that?" Only you would come up with that darling cloche.
I know I have past up many of those clocks. Great job.
Thanks for the great linky party.

I don't think I've EVER missed an episode of The Bachelor/Bachelorette. I cried through the whole durn thing, especially the rainbow part.

I love that big cloche with the lemons. GORGEOUS! How smart of you to use the clock? BRILLIANT!

Carmen @ Life with Sprinkles on Top said...

I have a love for cloches too. I have lemons in one in my kitchen as well. I love the clock turned cloche. I must do this. It's so cute!

We don't have a regular TV, so I have to wait until the next day to see the Bachelorette. I innocently logged into Yahoo Messenger and saw who was proposing to Ali and was SO UPSET! Now I don't feel like watching it at all, cuz I know what happens. (And I was voting for the other guy.) Anyway, thanks for hosting--I have so many tabs open! I use my cake plate (with lid) as a cloche, does that count? :)

Aaaah! Cute! I've been looking for one of these at our thrift store to turn into a fake terrarium. You know... moss, rocks and some sort of fake plant - but I haven't been able to find one. Darn the luck!

Amber said...

I absolutely LOVE that your blog has so many lovelies and awesome ideas, AND that you're doing it all on the Dave Ramsey plan! I just started DR and it keeps me inspired to be thrifty for really, really good reasons.

I've been looking EVERYWHERE for cloches and cannot find any! Can. Not. Anywhere. Even ebay has caught onto the trend and priced them up a little. Any suggestions on where to continue my quest? :)

Michelle said...

Wow! I really love all of your cloches! I never would've thought to use a clock as one...great idea! :o)

The clock-turned-cloche thing is genius! As for The Bachelor, I can't believe that show is still on! And there's now a Bachelorette! Ha ha ha ha

Debi said...

I love this idea and it turned out fabulous! I actually like the birds better than the other ones due to the stark contrast between the base and paleness of the birds....so many ideas to choose from!

Molly @ The Creative Maven said...

Hey Sarah! I did a clock to cloche a few months ago... http://www.thecreativemaven.net/2010/02/diy-cloche-or-bell-jar.html It might have been me... I think I linked it to the B & A party a couple months ago... but it could have been someone else too? :) Who knows!

Kasey said...

I have always wanted to get my hands on some of those things but I can never seem to find any, anywhere! Boo. I did find some on sale at AC Moore but they were really really small. I never thought about trying to find a clock and just taking it apart though. I will add that to my list of items 'In search of'! :)
