October in review

Hello all! Hope you’ve had a great week and have an even better weekend planned! It’s the end of the month, so that means another quick recap of the projects I’ve posted here on TDC in October. Two months left in the year…I can hardly believe it.

I started out the month with one a big fail of a project in the basement:

magnetic strip fail

You all had great ideas, and I went out that day and bought some washers to glue to the bottom of the cars. Still haven’t done it, but it will be a good, mindless project. Someday. :) I’ll definitely let you know when I do it!

Next up, I shared some of the beautiful before and after projects from last month, and you all shared 350 more at the October linky:light blue walls dining room

I wanted a spot for the Kleenex (and my hot chocolate) in the family room, so I moved one of my favorite pieces next to the sofa and was surprised at how well it worked:

So cozy!

I did a LOT in the family room this month…not sure what that’s about. ;) I shared our coffee table redo here and the DIY wood tray here:

We still have so much to do in the basement, but I had to start decorating…just a little:

You can see how I put together this little spot here.

The basement laundry room is coming together…slow but sure. I took advantage of that weird space behind the washer and dryer and made a shelf for the stuff we use regularly:

It’s not pretty yet, but functional, and that’s all I care about right now. Have I mentioned how much I love having a laundry ROOM? It’s delightful!

You shared more than 200 beautiful bedrooms at the Show Us Your House party here.

I was THRILLED to finally find affordable lighting for the library bookcases. It only took forever:

Speaking of bookcases! Can you even believe I finally finished them??:

Thanks for all the comments – I really appreciate that you take the time!

I also shared a couple Halloween projects – our mummy door here and paper Halloween decor here.

Don’t forget Monday is the November Before and After Party – get those posts ready!

Have a lovely fall weekend! Got anything fun planned?

  1. What a great way to *remind* yourself how productive you were for the month (not to mention a handy tool for show & tell w/the hubs just in case there are any question about what you were doing). I so look forward to your posts. Have a great weekend!

  4. You got some great projects done! AND hurray on having a laundry room! That's awesome. We have similar colors in our family rooms and I was admiring your white coffee table in there. What a pretty and functional piece. :)

  5. Sarah! I'd already forgotten about your "failed" project with Bubs' big E and the cars. That actually might qualify for the His & Hers Craft Challenge for this month. You did purchase the washers and the magnetic strips...and you are using them in an unusual way...and you didn't do it the way you saw on Pinterest...just think about it. :)

  7. i am new to your blog and i absolutley love it! i recently saw a picture on pinterest from your blog and i was wondering if you could help me with something. the picture was that of a kitchen but it was zoomed in on the backsplash and i a hoping to find out where the backsplash came from. i could not find the corresponding post but hopefully if i describe it to you it will jog your memory. in the picture was a beautiful slate colored decorative backsplash above the sink. there were granite countertops, an undermount stainless sink, sunflowers in a vase next to the sink, light oak cabinets above with recessed lighting underneath. does this ring a bell?

  8. Now wait a doggone minute! I thought we had a deal!? I thought you were going to allow me to finish my bookcases before you finished yours?

Shame shame shame on you for making me look so bad.

    Now I'm all "WhatEVER Sarah."

They look fantastic and I wish you had started yours in January so I could have seen the lights and put lights on ours! I know I could still do it - somehow. But it would be very difficult.

  10. Hi! love your site. I was wondering if you could share your opinion... I have a townhome (on a slab) and have had some some issues with my downstairs bathroom. This has really messed up my carpet. Plus ~ I had a dog who had some issues (and have a new dog who has some issues!) so my carpet is awful. I was thinking about having the carpet pulled up, the concrete stained and using a rug ~ are you familiar with this? Any help/advise would be great.
